Julep Maven June ’13 box

I’ve been skipping my Julep Maven boxes all spring, but when I saw this month’s selections I knew it was time to splurge. Why? Because one of the polishes included is named Martha…and it’s a pale pink (my fave)…and June is my birthday month! Happy birthday to me! I also thought a Maven box would be a good way to treat myself for hitting the end of my spending ban without buying any makeup. (Although, I have to admit–it wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought it would be, after the first week or two was past!)

This month’s theme was “Sail Into Summer”, with a palette of Nantucket-inspired seaside colors. It was hard to pick just one polish set, because all of the colors were so gorgeous! But I finally settled on Classic With A Twist, which included Martha (a pale pink polo creme) and Kennedy (a khaki creme). As an add-on I picked Payton, a kelly green creme from the “Bombshell” box.

This was the worst week ever to try to do nail swatches–I’ve been painting and generally not taking care of my hands lately, so my cuticles are in rough shape. But you get the idea of how these colors look against my skin tone. Kennedy is a nice nude, though I think I need something with more peach in it to suit my skin tone. It would be really gorgeous against really dark skin! Martha is a cool-toned pale pink. Both of these polishes were opaque in two coats and had average drying time. I didn’t get a chance to swatch Payton yet, but I already have a feeling she’s going to be June’s polish of the month, so you’ll get a chance to see her next week. :)

This month, Julep added a tube of their new DD Creme to the Maven boxes. They’re really playing up the “DD” part of this product, calling it “delightfully dewy”, “daily defense”, “dramatically different”, “damage diminishing” and “dynamic do-all” makeup. This product retails for $36/1-oz. tube ($28.80 for Mavens). I’m not a big fan of BB creams so I’m not sure how I’ll like this stuff; my initial impression of it is that it’s going to be way too “dewy” for my combo skin, and while it makes my skin look really nice, I do still need concealer for my undereye circles and the redness around my nose. I’ll post a full review with pictures next week, once I’ve had time to properly test it.

So that’s it for my June Maven box! Did you get a Maven box this month? If so let me know, because I’d love to see your swatches and hear your thoughts on the new DD Creme.

How cool, they called a nail polish after you! :) When is your birthday exactly?
I did not know that there are DD creams. I know BB creams and I have heard that there are CC creams now. This is all so confusing! :)

Martha, the site looks amazing! AMAZING! I love it!
Your Julep box looks super fun. I have yet to sign up for any of those, but I love the idea of them. I should do it this summer, at least once.
Happy birthday month! I’m a June girl too!

      Aw, thank you!

You really should give Julep a try! I like it because you can just skip months if the boxes don’t look interesting, instead of having to cancel flat-out. So you can just get a few boxes throughout the year instead of every month if you like!

Happy birthday to you too!! Do something fun to celebrate! :)

Yeah, they were including it in all of the boxes this month…I kind of would have preferred one or two more polishes instead! But, I’ll try it and see how it goes. It’s not like it cost me anything extra to get it, so I guess I can’t complain! :P

Looks like a great box this month! I always debate signing up for Julep when I see those “get your first box free” offers, but I’ve yet to take the plunge. I know they had some customer service issues in the beginning, which is why I’ve held off, but now I’m tempted again! Hopefully that’s all been sorted out by now anyways :)

The couple of times that I’ve had to get in touch with customer service they seemed to handle things pretty promptly, and the one time their site was malfunctioning and I couldn’t select a box, they sent it to me for free! So I’ve had a pretty positive experience with them. :) The quality of the nail polish seems to have really improved in the past year too.

That’s a great box, and the pink shade with your name is sooo pretty! That green looks amazing too and I look forward to seeing it on you. :-)

I find the green shade more appealing to me personally but otherwise Happy Birthday to you. I wished they had a nail polish named after me, haha. I’d definitely buy it.

I’ve been signed up for this for awhile but I’ve yet to purchase a box, so tempted to though I love all these colours!

I just took Martha off of my toes last night! :) It’s such a beautiful color – and an amazing name! ;)
I couldn’t decide on just one box, so I ordered the entire collection add-on! I justified it by reminding myself that I’ve passed on the last few months. :)
As for the DD Cream, I only tried it once and was not impressed. It makes my face feel greasy and didn’t really seem like it did much. Not much coverage either. I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts! :)

I always end up seeing the swatches on blogs later on and wishing I had ordered more colors! The DD cream was odd, it was definitely too oily for my skin. I’m going to try to get a review up of that this week.
