Thought Questions: Day 21: If you had to teach something, what would you teach?

While reading Danielle’s blog Underland to Wonderland, I came across a post in which she talked about the website Thought Questions and their 365 thought-provoking questions to ask yourself over the course of a year. I decided that I would start answering one of the questions each day for the next year. Not only will this give me a reason to blog every day for a year straight, it will get my creative juices flowing–and I think it will be fun! If you join in please leave me a comment so I can see your answers too. :)

Day 21: If you had to teach something, what would you teach?

I think I would enjoy teaching creative writing. Or maybe I could be a fashion consultant and teach people how to have better style. Both of those things would utilize my personal interests pretty well. I would say that I’d like to teach people about veganism or the environment, but as it stands I’m still a learner myself :)

Thought Questions: Day 20: Which activities make you lose track of time?

Day 20: Which activities make you lose track of time?

Pinterest and reading. It’s kind of sad how endlessly happy I can be without any human interaction. Pretty sure that’s not normal.

Thought Questions: Day 19: If you had a friend…?

While reading Danielle’s blog Underland to Wonderland, I came across a post in which she talked about the website Thought Questions and their 365 thought-provoking questions to ask yourself over the course of a year. I decided that I would start answering one of the questions each day for the next year. Day 19: If you had a friend who spoke to you in the same way that you sometimes speak to yourself, how long would you allow this person to be your friend?

If you had asked me this question a short time ago, I would have had to answer with an emphatic “not very long at all”. I have always tended to be hard on myself, and that can turn into very negative, bitchy self-speak:

“You really think that looks good on you?”

“You’re not smart enough for that. What if you screw up and embarrass yourself in front of everyone?”

“I can’t believe you spent the whole day listing to music and reading instead of doing something productive.”

If someone else talked that way to me, I would show them the door and probably the sidewalk, too! It’s only recently started to hit me just how damaging all of that negative self-talk really is in your life. It sounds corny when people tell you to replace a negative thought with a positive one, but I like to think of it as a problem-solving situation. You’re not just “thinking positive”, you’re identifying the problem that led to the negative thought in the first place and coming up with a solution.

“I’ve been so steady with my workout routine that I’ll have the arms for this tank top by summer.”

“I can spend my day off reading up on this topic so I’ll be informed enough to talk about it.”

“I worked hard this week and enjoyed my day of rest. Now I’m geared up and ready to be even more productive in the week ahead!”

That’s how my friends would talk to me. That is how I will choose to talk to myself.

Thought Questions: Day 18: Is it possible to lie without saying a word?

While reading Danielle’s blog Underland to Wonderland, I came across a post in which she talked about the website Thought Questions and their 365 thought-provoking questions to ask yourself over the course of a year. I decided that I would start answering one of the questions each day for the next year. Day 18: Is it possible to lie without saying a word?

Yes. Body language, lies of omission, etc.

Ten on Tuesday: school, TV, and oh yeah, books

1. I’m almost done with my sci-fi lit class and as much as I’ve enjoyed it, I’m kind of relieved. I’m ready to read books for fun again, not because they’re on a syllabus.

2. I knew I would enjoy my modern business class when the professors started referencing Dilbert and The Big Bang Theory!

3. Helllllloooo, spring time! We actually turned the heat off and opened the windows two days in a row. (Just a crack, and I’m wearing my fuzzy bathrobe, but still–the house stayed at 66 degrees.) It feels great to get that fresh air inside.

4. I can no longer claim to be “not a TV person”–I’m hooked on Boardwalk Empire. And yeah, I’m about three seasons behind, but it’s still awesome.

5. Are you going to see Divergent? I loved the first book and hated the second and third ones. I do like Shailene Woodley but overall I’m still feeling kind of “meh” about the whole franchise. And no one, repeat, NO ONE can replace Katniss!

6. I need this pin! (From Etsy seller beanforest)

7. So true.

8. Speaking of books–take this Buzzfeed quiz to find out what type of book you are! I’m a secondhand book, apparently.

9. By the way, those Buzzfeed quizzes are evil. Talk about a time suck!

10. If I buy one new pair of shoes for spring, it will probably be these. You can’t go wrong with Chucks.

Day 16: Have you done anything lately worth remembering?

I spent time with the people I love most, which is always worth remembering, in my opinion. Sadly I have no grand adventures to relate otherwise!
