Cute Shoe Monday: military-inspired heeled booties

How awesome are these heeled booties? I just picked these up and cannot wait to rock them with everything from dresses to jeans. I love the olive-brown color–it’s basic and yet not at the same time. I could see these with skinny jeans, a tee, and a cozy scarf; or with scrunched-down socks and lots of layers to make a summer dress more autumn-appropriate.

How to nail the shorts and boots trend

Some clothes seem meant strictly for one season: bikinis, sweaters, so on and so forth. But autumn is that rare magical season when you can take pieces from summer–like shorts–and pieces from your new fall/winter wardrobe–like boots–and blend them together for a totally trendy, hip, rock-chic look. Here’s how to nail the look:

    1. Stick with short boots. Ankle boots, low cowgirl boots, short moto boots, even wedge booties–all work great with this trend. Avoid knee-high (or, gasp, thigh-high) versions unless you want to be mistaken for an extra on the set of a Pretty Woman remake.

    2. Stick to regular, thigh-length shorts. Hot pants are for Hollywood celebs only, and bermudas are too long and look awkward.

    3. Pull it all together. Go a little bit rock-n-roll with a vintage-y tee, moto boots, and aviators. Wear ankle booties with dressy shorts, a silky tank, and some cool jewelry. The point is, own the look: don’t let people mistakenly assume you just couldn’t find your flip-flops at the last minute.

Here are a couple of lookbook sheets to get you started:

    1. Sleeveless Doors Tee, $15.80, Forever 21
    2. Destroyed Cuffed Denim Shorts, $22.80, Forever 21

Fall 2012 shoe guide: boots, boots, and more boots

If there’s one shoe that says “autumn” to me, it’s a pair of boots. It’s fitting, then, that there are so many great styles of boots surfacing on the fall fashion scene this year. From low to high and flat to heeled, here are the best fall 2012 boot trends to add to your closet.

    Low ankle boots
Proof that you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for style–or vice versa–these boots are a versatile and trendy pick that won’t leave you hobbling at the end of a long day at a music festival.

    Riding boots
This equestrian-inspired style goes with skirts and pants alike and keeps your feet warm and dry through the winter months.

    Knee-high heeled boots
The seventies staple is back in a big way after a long year of ankle booties. (Don’t worry, those haven’t gone away either!)

    Buckle boots
Low, high, heeled, flat–all styles are sporting serious buckles this year, which lend major edge to even the flounciest frock.

    High-heeled boots
Yes, they’re wildly impractical. But they’re also wildly fun. Wear them with colored or sweater-knit tights for maximum trendiness.

Cute shoe Monday: Mossimo Kalea boot from Target

How awesome is the Mossimo Kalea boot? I just picked up a pair from Target and I must say, they’re not just good-looking—they’re comfy, too. I love the southwestern cowgirl style. The upper feels like denim and the bottom is, of course, faux leather.

They’re right in line with fall’s Southwest-inspired fashions. But they seem to be selling fast, so don’t wait to buy them! At my local Target store, the Mossimo Kalea boot display was almost completely sold out already, and a lot of their other boots were selling fast too!
