Steampunk vampire hunter OOTD

I was feeling really bored yesterday and started playing around with some new makeup to create a goth look. And then since the makeup didn’t fit with my sweatpants and t-shirt, I started digging through my closet for the most steampunk or goth clothing I owned. My husband had the bright idea to take some pictures and this is what we ended up with. (And yes, it’s snowing in the pics! Our first real snow of the season!)

I didn’t dress up for Halloween this year, but this is what I had in mind. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t have gotten away with it at work though…especially if I showed up carrying a sword and had a pair of sais stuck in my boots. ;)

And let’s be real—no real steampunk vampire hunter would chase monsters in high-heeled boots. My feet hurt after just running around the yard for half an hour. And I’m missing a good crossbow or some outlandish steam-looking weapon firearm, which I have yet to procure.

But it’s pretty fun to dress up and play around at home. Even if the neighbors drive by and stare. Oh well, might as well give them something good to stare at!

OOTD: fall colors and falling leaves

Fall colors

I think this is my favorite time of the year. The autumn colors are gorgeous and I get to wear all of my favorite things: boots, cozy scarves, and lots of layers. It’s been a bit rainy here but I did get outside to take these quick OOTD pics. I’m loving my new boot socks and wear them everyday!

Rocksbox #8: the last one for a while

Happy Friday everyone! It’s been a long week and I’m really looking forward to a few days off. Today I have a look at my latest Rocksbox; this is going to be my last one for a while as we tighten up our budget in preparation for some life changes this summer, but hopefully I can renew my membership later on. I’ve really enjoyed receiving these boxes and getting to try out new pieces of jewelry a few times a month! If you’re new to Rocksbox and want to learn more, read on at the end of the post.

My latest Rocksbox features such lovely gems, including these stacking rings from Sophie Harper!

I really loved this final set, and it was a bummer I didn’t get to wear these pieces more, but we’ve been too busy to go out much. The stacking rings (Sophie Harper, $46 retail or $36 for members) were especially perfect for me–slim and delicate. The earrings (Ashiana London, $74 retail or $59 for members) were actually on my wishlist, so I was happy to see those! And I loved the sparkle of this statement necklace (Perry Street, $68 retail or $54 for members). It was definitely hard to send back!

Never heard of Rocksbox? Here’s how it works: you start by completing a “style profile” via their site; your stylist then puts together a set of gems for you that arrives in about a week. You can keep the pieces as long as you like and if you love anything from your box you can purchase it at a discounted rate (you also get $10 in “Shine Spend” each month to put towards a purchase). Not in love? Reuse the shipping bag and the return label inside to send back your set; a new one is put together and shipped out within a few days.

The monthly charge is $19 and you can refresh your set an unlimited number of times monthly; there is no option to skip a month, but you can cancel at any time. If you’re a new subscriber, you can get your first month FREE by using my promo code MARTHABFF9 at sign-up!

Rocksbox #7

Happy Tuesday! I’m in the middle of a four-day weekend (lucky me!) and hopefully heading out for some Thai food and a movie later tonight! Today I wanted to post a quick peek at my latest Rocksbox.

New to Rocksbox? Check out the details at the end of the post and find out how you can get your first month for free!

After a few really good boxes, this one was a disappointment. I really loved the bangle, which is so pretty solo but could also be stacked. However, the necklace wasn’t really my style, and the earrings were just “meh”–I really prefer bolder styles! I can see why they sent the necklace, since I loved another statement necklace I received and bought a pair of earrings with a similar shape. I’m hoping the next box will be a lot better, though. (Margaret Elizabeth Teardrop Bangle, $88 or $70 for insiders; Loren Hope Carina necklace, $165 or $132 for insiders; Sophie Harper Pave Ball Studs, $40 or $32 for insiders.)
