UGLee Ergonomic Pen review + GIVEAWAY

I received one or more of the products mentioned below for free using Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

I love writing, versus typing. It’s true that I’m glued to my keyboard on a daily basis–but where I have the option, I love sitting down with a pen and paper to write, not type. Keeping a journal, snail mail, making recipe cards, doodling down story ideas in a notebook–it’s all better when you’re writing with ink and paper! However, if you like to write a lot (as I do), then you know that writing isn’t always the most comfortable, and holding a pen for hours on end can start to strain your fingers, which doesn’t sound like a big deal until you try taking notes all day or have a stack of dozens of cards to fill out!

Enter the UGLee ergonomic pen. We’ve all heard the phrase “necessity is the mother of invention”, and that’s certainly true for Dr. James Lee, who invented the Ultimate Grip pen (hence the name UGLee) after trying and failing to find a truly comfortable writing pen. The result of his research and testing is the UGLee pen, which is designed to allow for a more comfortable grip to reduce hand strain and cramping. A lighter weight, contoured super-soft grip and smooth ink system mean all make for a pen that’s lighter to hold and grip and doesn’t require a heavy press in order to write. Compared to writing with regular ink pens, it barely feels like you’re holding a pen at all! And because the pens use refillable ink cartridges, there’s less waste than would be produced by throwing away plastic casings every time you use up an ink pen.

And now for the best part…UGLee Pen is giving away a pen pack to one lucky winner! To enter the giveaway, use the Rafflecopter widget below, and please remember:

  • You must be a resident of the United States.
  • You must “like” UGLee Pen on Facebook and/or follow them on Twitter.
  • You must follow the question prompt in the widget.

The giveaway will be open through October 27, 2013, and the winner will be notified on October 28. Good luck!

Okay, on to the closeup shots of these lovely items. Each of the six shadow trios coordinates to one of the polishes. First we have a trio of rose and peach shades called Spoiled Army Brat, with a rose cream polish called Fatigue Glam.
Support Our Troops is a trio of black, grey and white shades and is paired with a grey cream polish called Tough Girl.

I Don’t Do Camouflage is a trio of blues with a bright cobalt blue cream polish called Left, Left, Left, Right, Left.

Soldiers in Charms, a trio of olives and greens, is easily my favorite of the bunch. Atten-Hut! is a shimmery olive polish.

Zero Dark Flirty (great naming, that) is a trio of rich purples paired with a slightly shimmery purple polish called Beauty Is A Battlefield.

Finally we have a trio of khakis and browns called Enlisting For Beauty, which actually comes with a bonus MegaProtein mascara (the mascara is not vegan, FYI). The shimmery champagne polish is called Femme Trouper.

Prize mail: Dollish Polish!

Hey everybody! I took this pic last week and completely zonked on posting it. I won a bottle of Dollish Polish in a giveaway from The Polish Hideout and it’s so lovely, I had to share a swatch! The shade is Expecto Patronum (yup, Harry Potter reference there) and it’s a lovely white jelly full of teal hex glitter.

This polish applies really smoothly, dries quickly, and was opaque in three coats. There’s tons of glitter in the polish, so it isn’t hard at all to get an even coating on the nails. It’s just such an interesting color! I really don’t think the photo does it justice.

Yun has much better swatches here if you want to see them :P and while you’re there I recommend following her blog–I think she has some of the best polish swatches in the blogosphere! Thanks again Yun for the prize, I love it!

[CLOSED] Album review + GIVEAWAY: Holley Maher ‘Euphorics’ EP

(Disclaimer: I was provided a copy of the album in order to review. The giveaway prizes will be e-mailed directly to the winners by the PR company. I was not compensated in any way for this review and all opinions are my own.)

If you’re searching for a new summer soundtrack, I have a suggestion: Holley Maher’s new EP, Euphorics. The Nashville singer-songwriter’s latest project just dropped June 18th and it’s an infectious blend of acoustic rhythms and piano pop that provides the perfect backdrop to summer road trips and backyard barbecues.

The hubby and I are both fans of acoustic-driven pop artists like Jack Johnson and I’m always looking for new artists to add to the mix. Holley’s music definitely fits the bill, with catchy tracks like “Golden” quickly getting stuck in your head.

There’s more to Holley than just a pretty voice. She’s a multi-talented artist who dabbles in everything from painting to writing to dance, and owns the freelance graphic design boutique H. Maher Creative, where she whips up art for indie bands, small businesses, and brides-to-be looking for something unique for their big day.

That’s a pretty long list of creative endeavors for one person, but Holley seems to feel anything but stretched thin, calling her latest EP “joyful” and “fun to make”. That joy shines through in the music, and it’s easy to see why Holley’s music has been featured in ads for brands like Birchbox and ModCloth; her upbeat style immediately pulls you in and makes you want more.

For her latest project, Holley teamed up with veteran Nashville producer Chris Grainger (who’s worked with some of the biggest alt-pop acts to hit the radio, such as Wilco and Sixpence None the Richer) and electropop artist/songwriter Kyle Andrews, who helped inject a touch of electronic pep into Holley’s acoustic vibe. Explains Holley, “With Euphorics, I really wanted to explore something new and take a step outside my comfort zone.” The result is a mix of pianos, drums, and string arrangements backing Holley’s delicate vocals that would be right at home next to Ingrid Michaelson or Sara Bareilles.

Okay, now on to the giveaway! Bullhorn Publicity is generously offering two lucky readers a copy of Holley’s new EP Euphorics. Use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter, and remember: you can earn bonus entries every day by Tweeting about the giveaway! The giveaway is open through July 8th and the winners will be contacted on July 9th. Good luck!
