Rocksbox #8: the last one for a while

Happy Friday everyone! It’s been a long week and I’m really looking forward to a few days off. Today I have a look at my latest Rocksbox; this is going to be my last one for a while as we tighten up our budget in preparation for some life changes this summer, but hopefully I can renew my membership later on. I’ve really enjoyed receiving these boxes and getting to try out new pieces of jewelry a few times a month! If you’re new to Rocksbox and want to learn more, read on at the end of the post.

My latest Rocksbox features such lovely gems, including these stacking rings from Sophie Harper!

I really loved this final set, and it was a bummer I didn’t get to wear these pieces more, but we’ve been too busy to go out much. The stacking rings (Sophie Harper, $46 retail or $36 for members) were especially perfect for me–slim and delicate. The earrings (Ashiana London, $74 retail or $59 for members) were actually on my wishlist, so I was happy to see those! And I loved the sparkle of this statement necklace (Perry Street, $68 retail or $54 for members). It was definitely hard to send back!

Never heard of Rocksbox? Here’s how it works: you start by completing a “style profile” via their site; your stylist then puts together a set of gems for you that arrives in about a week. You can keep the pieces as long as you like and if you love anything from your box you can purchase it at a discounted rate (you also get $10 in “Shine Spend” each month to put towards a purchase). Not in love? Reuse the shipping bag and the return label inside to send back your set; a new one is put together and shipped out within a few days.

The monthly charge is $19 and you can refresh your set an unlimited number of times monthly; there is no option to skip a month, but you can cancel at any time. If you’re a new subscriber, you can get your first month FREE by using my promo code MARTHABFF9 at sign-up!

Rocksbox #7

Happy Tuesday! I’m in the middle of a four-day weekend (lucky me!) and hopefully heading out for some Thai food and a movie later tonight! Today I wanted to post a quick peek at my latest Rocksbox.

After a few really good boxes, this one was a disappointment. I really loved the bangle, which is so pretty solo but could also be stacked. However, the necklace wasn’t really my style, and the earrings were just “meh”–I really prefer bolder styles! I can see why they sent the necklace, since I loved another statement necklace I received and bought a pair of earrings with a similar shape. I’m hoping the next box will be a lot better, though. (Margaret Elizabeth Teardrop Bangle, $88 or $70 for insiders; Loren Hope Carina necklace, $165 or $132 for insiders; Sophie Harper Pave Ball Studs, $40 or $32 for insiders.)

What I wore: denim shirt and white trousers

Happy Friday! I’m so excited for May to arrive, aren’t you? All this warm spring weather means I can finally break out some of my lighter pieces (you know, instead of boots and scarves–which totally have their place in my heart, but after several long months of winter…)

What I wore: denim shirt and white trousers

I snagged a massive deal on this denim shirt when I found it on a 90% off clearance rack for six bucks. At one time I didn’t understand the appeal of a denim shirt, but it’s surprisingly versatile. I like the way it makes these white trousers more casual for a date night, especially when paired with a summery bag.

What I wore: denim shirt, white trousers and statement necklace

Since these pants are so long and so wide-legged, I’m wearing wedge sandals to give me some height. Flats just wouldn’t be proportionate to the silhouette and heels would run the risk of snagging the hems.

What I wore: denim shirt and white trousers

The finishing touch is this Perry Street necklace, borrowed from Rocksbox, with which I am absolutely in love. The bright colors and luxe details help upgrade a basic outfit to something more special. (Want to try Rocksbox for yourself? Use my promo code “marthabff9” at sign-up to try a month free!)

Rocksbox #6: a gorgeous statement necklace!

Happy Thursday! It’s almost the weekend and I wanted to give you guys a peek at my newest Rocksbox. (I’ll have an OOTD with one of the pieces on the blog later this week!)

This gorgeous Perry Street Kaylee Necklace ($68 or $54 for insiders) has been on my wishlist for a while, and I was so excited to style it! I have a cute OOTD I’ll post later in the week from our date night this week. The Kendra Scott Elle Earrings ($59 or $41 for insiders) are such a striking shade of cobalt–they really look red carpet-worthy. The only item I wasn’t feeling was the House of Harlow 1960 Illuminating Rectangle Cuff ($88 or $70 for insiders)–it was a little too small for me.

Rocksbox #5: In which I get an item from my wishlist!

It’s time for another round of Rocksbox! This time I got an item I’d asked for previously, which you can imagine really made my weekend sparkle (in more ways than one!). New to Rocksbox? Here’s how it works: You complete a “style profile” via their site; your stylist then puts together a set of gems for you that arrives in about a week. Anuja Tolia Clear Stone Cuff from Rocksbox

I like the design of this Anuja Tolia Clear Stone Cuff ($40 or $32 for insiders), but I’m not big on the stone, which looks more white or more yellow depending on the lighting. It just didn’t click for me.

The second piece in my box was a Gorjana Marmont Fringe Necklace ($110 or $88 for insiders); I struggled to get a good pic but you can see a good one here on the Gorjana website. This would be cute for layering, but I don’t think I’d pay that much for a piece I couldn’t also wear solo.

Perry Street Alta Earrings from Rocksbox

I put these earrings on my wish list last month and was thrilled to get them in my box. I think I might use my Shine Spend on these! They’re even cooler in person and I love the mix of colors and medium size–they’ll go with so many different items in my closet. (Perry Street Alta Earrings, $55 or $44 for insiders)

Rocksbox #4: the boho turquoise box I LOVE

Oh, Rocksbox. After a somewhat bumpy beginning to our relationship the jewelry subscription service blew me out of the water with my fourth box, a mix of gold and turquoise boho pieces that I LOVE. New to Rocksbox? Here’s how it works: You complete a “style profile” via their site; your stylist then puts together a set of gems for you that arrives in about a week. I love this Jules Smith Double Tear Drop necklace that arrived in my latest Rocksbox!

I absolutely adored this necklace (Jules Smith Double Tear Drop necklace, $100 or $80 for members). It’s turquoise, layered, long, boho…everything I love in a spring necklace! I wear this type nonstop with tanks, vests, and sweaters. I hate to send this back, but I think I’ll have to: we’re looking at some major bills right now and so I can’t justify spending $70 on a piece of jewelry for myself. Another time, I would definitely use my Shine Spend on this piece.

This Urban Gem Aztec Open Cuff from my latest Rocksbox looks great solo, but it's also fun to layer up with other bracelets for a boho vibe.

Next up is this matching bracelet (Urban Gem Aztec Open Cuff, $60 or $48 for members). This was a little on the small side, but I have small hands and wrists, so it fit me fine. I like that you could stack this or wear it solo.

These Jules Smith Coin Earrings (from my latest Rocksbox) make me feel like a Bollywood extra (in a good way!).

Finally there’s a pair of earrings (Jules Smith Coin Earrings, $30 or $24 for members). In my feedback for my last box I requested bolder earrings and Rocksbox delivered. These make me feel like an extra in a Bollywood movie (in a good way) and aren’t too heavy.

So that’s my latest Rocksbox! Have you ever tried Rocksbox, or do you have another favorite subscription box to recommend? What jewelry pieces are you excited to break out now that spring is finally upon us?

My Rocksbox redux: March 2015

Rocksbox March15 1

If you’ve read my blog for a while, then you might remember the time I tried out Rocksbox. I wasn’t overwhelmed by the service and ended up canceling my subscription after my trial period ended, but when the company reached out recently to see if I’d like to give it another shot, I decided to go for it. After all, practice makes perfect, so a few months’ worth of style profiling should make my boxes better this time around. Plus, I’ve had a serious case of the “wanna-buys” lately–probably because of the seasonal change–so this is a good way to play with some new jewelry without committing to a piece I might not want to wear for very long.

Rocksbox March15 2

Here’s how it works: After signing up and completing your style profile via the Rocksbox website, a stylist puts together a set of jewelry and ships it out to you. I’ve found that the shipping is incredibly speedy–I got my box (and my return box was processed) in a matter of mere days. You can keep the pieces as long as you like, and if you like anything in particular, you can purchase it at a discounted member price, plus you get $10 each month in “Shine Spend” to put towards a purchase. When you’re ready to send back your set, simply reuse the package it arrived in (a prepaid label is in your box) and drop it in the mail; you’ll get a new set within days, and you can refresh your set an unlimited number of times in a month. The monthly charge is $19 and you can cancel at any time.

Rocksbox March15 4

Now, let’s look at my box…the first item is the Gorjana Taner Ear Climbers earring set ($40, $32 for insiders). In all honesty these earrings were just too plain for me; I like very bold earrings!

Rocksbox March15 5

The second item is this Slate Marble Triangle Necklace ($50, $40 for insiders). I’ve been toying with buying a similar necklace and appreciated getting to try the trend with some pieces in my closet before committing. I ended up deciding it wasn’t for me, but it was fun to try!

Rocksbox March15 6

Finally, I have a House of Harlow 1960 Symbols and Signs Bangle in Gold ($68, $54 for insiders). Of all my pieces, this was the one that most tempted me to buy it–anything boho is good by me–but I sent it back because I’m trying to control my cash flow right now and I already splurged on books and a yoga class this month.

So there’s my box! I was much happier with this box than previous ones, and I’m super-pleased with the speedy shipping. (If there’s one thing I hate, it’s waiting!) I already snuck a peek at my next box online and I can’t wait for it to arrive next week–I have a feeling I’m going to love everything in it!

Don’t forget to sign up for your own free month of Rocksbox! And pop back in next week to see my next set of gems…
