Ten on Tuesday

Ten on Tuesday: early holidays and famous birthdays

1. I’ve been a terrible linker-upper this past month. Well, what can I say–life gets busier and busier all the time!!

2. I don’t know where I’d be without Spotify. I don’t listen to the regular radio much anymore.

3. Thank goodness for my electric blanket! It went from warm and fall-like to forty degrees and pouring rain almost overnight and it’s freezing here.

4. And thank goodness for vacation…I really need a few days away from the craziness of work before the full plunge into the holiday season!

5. Speaking of holidays…why does all the Christmas stuff hit shelves in SEPTEMBER?! Seriously?! Who needs to buy a fake tree and window clings that soon?! I want to spend September and October enjoying fall, not thinking about snow and Christmas shopping. One holiday at a time, please.

6. I am just beyond disappointed to see Rihanna on the November cover of Glamour…I was so thrilled to see Kerry Washington–beautiful, talented, brilliant–on the October cover. But I have been disappointed with Rihanna ever since the whole Chris Brown incident. I was really upset that she would give a long interview about respecting yourself enough to leave an abusive man and how she had a responsibility as a role model to her fans, and then she went right back to him.

Obviously it’s her personal life and no one has the right to judge, but I feel like no one is willing to shake her and say, “Girlfriend, you deserve better. You are better.” I feel like young girls look at these stars and see only the drama and the glitz and miss all of the quiet knots in the stomach and hidden bruises and pain. I wish these stars would take their position as a role model seriously enough to stand up and say, “You don’t have to take that. You can leave.” And then demonstrate it.

7. When it comes to TV or books, do you prefer spoilers or not? My husband avoids them at all costs; I don’t mind some spoilers. Sometimes, I confess, I seek them out. What can I say? I’m not good at waiting!

8. I got really bored and decided to look up all the famous people who share my birthday, because why not. I think it should be a game, like pick a half dozen people who share your birthday and they can be your zombie apocalypse fighting team. Anyway, I get to have some pretty good people on my team I think: Nicole Kidman (survived being married to Tom Cruise, after all), Robert Rodriguez (creator of El Mariachi and badass bucket hat-wearer), Rampage Jackson (member of The A-Team), James Tolkland (remember Strickland from Back to the Future?), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (should have some fighting skills from Kick-Ass), and Tom Wlaschiha (Jaqen H’ghar–say no more). So tell me, which six teammates do you get?

9. I’ve realized that my Pinterest LOL board is literally a jungle, so I’ve been breaking it up into smaller boards. With over 3300 LOL Pins, that should probably only take, oh, a year or two!

10. My mind has clearly been all over the place this week!! Tell me if you link up for Ten On Tuesday, I’d love to see what you’re thinking about this week!

I really don’t want to see Christmas stuff right now either! Halloween first!
Haha, we are the same. I don’t mind some spoilers because I am so impatient but David hates them so much! He always gets angry when I spoil something for him! :)
    My 6 teammates:
Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones! Yay!), Patrick Stewart, Cheech Marin, Julius Caesar, Phil Margera (Bam Margera’s father) and Günther Jauch (German TV guy).

Oh, I hate spoilers…I get so annoyed if someone spoiler bombs me.

Also, the Christmas thing..yuck! It’s like four months dedicated to greed and gluteny and one day for family. I refuse to think about the season at all until the middle of Decemer!!

I’ve never listened to Spotify so I guess I’m gonna have to try. I need a Christmas tree…well actually the kids want one. I really don’t like to bother with the decoration. Underneath all that glamour, celebrities are not much different than the rest of us. Certainly, they have a vast amount of fans and have the ability to influence and even change people’s lives. The reality is that it is not up to them to become the role model that you want them to be but more importantly up to each individual to chose who we want as our role model.

    2. I listen to Spotify all day long and in my car.
    3. I have a fear of electric blankets.
    5. I love Christmas and everything that has to do with Christmas. I have honestly contemplated putting up my tree already.
    9. I was just thinking this same thing the other day.

I can’t do the spoilers. As a woman who left an abusive relationship when I was a young adult, I don’t understand the logic either but it really is a lot harder than it seems. It’s complicated. I love Rhiana, but I do hope she gets the courage to leave. You share your birthday with a lot of cool people! I do too. I have an inspiration week every year dedicated to my favorite birthday sharing peeps–Bob Marley, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Natalie King Cole, Axl Rose, Ronald Regan, Tom Brokaw and Babe Ruth!

I guess that’s why it sticks with me so badly–I was in a bad relationship when I was 18 and it was so so hard to leave, because people make it seem like there’s nothing wrong going on, or they act like you must have done something to deserve being treated poorly. I’d like to see people be more open about it and I do hope Rihanna will move on to healthier relationships. You sure have the cool people on your birthday list! A lot of legends. :)

I love spoilers in books, but not in tv shows or movies. With books, I often skim ahead to find out what happens in the end. That way, when I’m reading, I feel like I can really slow down and savor each page since I already know the ending. :)

Hope you have a great time off and get some much deserved R & R! <3

Oh, i forgot that it usually deletes my first comment here and I didn’t copy it!! Arr I’ll try to reconstruct it haha so it was something like this:
It’s a fun idea to search for the celebrity birthday twins! And the electric blanket sounds like the greatest idea ever (where did you get yours? is it safe? I’ve never had one!) – it’s miserably cold here! I have everything on (my socks, furry slippers, pants, top, sweatshirt and even the heater is on, too) – but nothing helps. My hair refuses to dry after the shower I took 4 hours ago.

You should totally get one! You can find them everywhere from cheaper stores like Walmart all the way up through nicer places like Macy’s. I’ve got one with the sherpa-style fleece and it’s soooooo soft. You just have to treat them like a heating pad–don’t leave it plugged in when you’re not using it and don’t cover the plug-in, etc.–but they are so awesome. I’m like you–I can’t get warm even with extra layers. I need my electric blanket! It’s a godsend!
