I got these questions from Danielle’s blog Underland to Wonderland, where I came across a post in which she talked about the website Thought Questions and their 365 thought-provoking questions to ask yourself. My friends Katrin, Celeste and Jasmine have also been answering these questions, so be sure to go check out their blogs too!
Day 55: If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do? Well, personally, I work even though I don’t enjoy it because I have bills to pay! There are things I would like to do that I don’t do in excess, simply because I don’t think they would be beneficial in the long run; for example I very much like lying around eating my favorite comfort foods, but I realize that this is very bad for my physical health when taken to an extreme, so I do have to get up and do something I dislike (exercise) in order to stay balanced.
I honestly think that there are just some unpleasant things we have to do in order to be happier and healthier overall. Even a short life can’t be enjoyed if you’re broke and unhealthy!

I agree, there are always some not so enjoyable things we have to do but I am working on eliminating lots of those things. :) Life is so short so we should be able to do as many enjoyable things as possible!

Same here! I’m learning it’s okay to skip the dishes or something once in a while to just read and drink tea. “All work and no play” and all that!

I think that’s a great way to look at it. Life is short do what you want and short term pain, long term pleasure seem to conflict. I guess it comes down to appreciating life every single day, despite not YET being in your dream job. x

It’s a tough balance! Being thankful and positive really helps too. It makes some of the “bad” stuff not seem so bad after all.

I love your answer. I totally agree… I work to pay the bills because I like having a roof over my head, clothes to wear, and food to eat. And I try not to eat too much of my favorite foods in one go cause that’s probably not healthy. But if I knew I only had a small limited amount of time to live, the work would be the first thing to go lol. :)

Same here. I feel like we spend way too much time at work and not with loved ones! Especially during the holiday season (at least for me!).

Life isn’t that simple and doesn’t work like that. We wouldn’t be able to sustain our survival, improve our quality of life, and evolve if we only did what we like to do. Happiness is all about perception.

Very true!
