I got these questions from Danielle’s blog Underland to Wonderland, where I came across a post in which she talked about the website Thought Questions and their 365 thought-provoking questions to ask yourself. My friends Katrin, Celeste and Jasmine have also been answering these questions, so be sure to go check out their blogs too!
Day 66: Who do you think stands between you and happiness? Oftentimes…myself! I’m my own worst critic and I am working on changing that.
At other times I might choose to point the finger at…
- the neighbor who woke me up as they spent thirty minutes running a leaf-blower on the street in front of their house in some bizarre attempt to make it very clean. And then swept it. After the street sweeper had already passed.
- another neighbor, who decided it would be a good idea to cart their stereo outside and turn on the local rap station full blast. (Spoiler alert: it was a bad idea.)
- the coworker who constantly plays “pass the buck”. It’s not my favorite game.
Well, you get the idea…there are always people who stand between me and being “happy”, but I’ve begun to realize that even when one is gone, another will replace them! So rather than focus my energy on griping about them, I try to focus on what I can do to change my happiness, and not on the actions of other people, since I can’t control them anyway.

Unfortunately there always seem to be some stupid people around! :( Your neighbors sound like a pain in the ass. But I know what you, I always stand between myself and my happiness too.

They certainly can be! But I’m getting better at ignoring them. Mind over matter and all that.

I always like to answer these in my head and then read your answers–usually they are pretty close to the same! I would definitely say myself most of the time. Even if it seems to be an outside source, it’s up to me to change that. Thanks so much for the

It’s really hard to shift your thinking, but it’s so true–so often we stand in our own way. Even if we don’t want to admit it! :P

We are all our own worst critic, overcoming that is very liberating! You can and will get there!

Thanks! I feel like I’ve made so much progress just in the past few months!
