Today I’m thrilled to take part in the book tour for Liza Perrat’s latest novel Blood Rose Angel! A historical drama/romance set in fourteenth century France, the book is the latest in a series about the women of L’Auberge des Anges—kinswomen connected by their talent for healing, and the mysterious angel talisman they carry. Read on for more on the book, and author interview, and an awesome giveaway!
1348. A bone-sculpted angel and the woman who wears it—heretic, Devil’s servant, saint.
Midwife Héloïse has always known that her bastard status threatens her standing in the French village of Lucie-sur-Vionne. Yet her midwifery and healing skills have gained the people’s respect, and she has won the heart of the handsome Raoul Stonemason. The future looks hopeful. Until the Black Death sweeps into France.
Fearful that Héloïse will bring the pestilence into their cottage, Raoul forbids her to treat its victims. Amidst the grief and hysteria, the villagers searching for a scapegoat, Héloïse must choose: preserve her marriage, or honor the oath she swore on her dead mother’s soul? And even as she places her faith in the protective powers of her angel talisman, she must prove she’s no Devil’s servant, her talisman no evil charm.

#302: In one word, how would you describe your childhood? Quiet, maybe? I had a pretty sheltered life in a small town and was too shy to make friends easily. I was happiest reading books and living life through the characters therein.
#303: What celebrities do you admire? Why? Angelina Jolie and Natalie Dormer are both smart, charitable, outspoken, and driven—the best kind of badass babe you could be.
#304: What is the number one motivator in your life right now? My own damn self. I feel like I’m literally sitting at the cliff edge looking out at all the possibilities for my life in 2016, and for the first time in a long time, I’m excited.
#305: What music do you listen to to lift your spirits when you’re feeling down? Lately it’s been Miike Snow, Suicide Sheep or The Chainsmokers. But depending on my mood it might also be Beartooth or Amaranthe.
#306: If I gave you $1000 and told you that you had to spend it today, what would you buy? If I was being really selfish—I’d go on a clothes shopping spree. I treat myself rarely and sometimes I get this urge to splurge.
#307: What was the last thing that made you laugh out loud? One of my coworkers and I have a running joke about this dumb Christmas jingle they’re playing on the radio at work. It’s just awful.
#308: What is your biggest pet peeve? Hypocrites. Don’t pretend to be perfect; we all have flaws.
I was feeling really bored yesterday and started playing around with some new makeup to create a goth look. And then since the makeup didn’t fit with my sweatpants and t-shirt, I started digging through my closet for the most steampunk or goth clothing I owned. My husband had the bright idea to take some pictures and this is what we ended up with. (And yes, it’s snowing in the pics! Our first real snow of the season!)
I didn’t dress up for Halloween this year, but this is what I had in mind. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t have gotten away with it at work though…especially if I showed up carrying a sword and had a pair of sais stuck in my boots. ;)
And let’s be real—no real steampunk vampire hunter would chase monsters in high-heeled boots. My feet hurt after just running around the yard for half an hour. And I’m missing a good crossbow or some outlandish steam-looking weapon firearm, which I have yet to procure.
But it’s pretty fun to dress up and play around at home. Even if the neighbors drive by and stare. Oh well, might as well give them something good to stare at!
