Can you guys believe it’s November already?! Because I sure can’t! I feel like fall just started and we’re already segueing into winter.
This month I decided to try out something new and fun: a month of clothing rentals from Le Tote. For the unfamiliar, Le Tote is a monthly fashion subscription box that lets you borrow or buy new styles, without the full retail price. The company was started as an answer to busy working women who bought lots of new clothes every month for events, but only wore them once or twice. Subscribers can “rent” hundreds of dollars worth of clothes and accessories each month for a low fee, giving them a revolving closet without the hefty price tag.

My picks for Mother’s Day gift ideas from ModCloth (L-R): Beach House Brunch Jacket, $49.99; Receiving Drop Honors Earrings in Turquoise, $14.99; Critical Kit! top, $34.99; Peaceful and Quiet Votive Candle Holder Set, $39.99; Trunks Full of Taste Shaker Set, $14.99.
Happy Friday everyone! I just got done addressing a big stack of Mother’s Day cards for family and friends—Mother’s Day is only a week away! This year I’ve got all sorts of moms on my list, from my own mom to girlfriends who are soon-to-be or brand-new parents, and so I’ve been having fun looking at all the different cards and gifts out there geared toward moms. And since I was having so much fun shopping, I thought I’d put together some gift guides this week featuring some of my favorite items!
Today I have a handful of items I saw on ModCloth and just really loved. They have so many cute and quirky options, from clothing to accessories to home decor. There’s something for every mom on your list, from the hipster (how awesome is that Pusheen tee?!) to the grandma who collects salt and pepper shakers (you can see my elephant obsession peeking through here).
If you just can’t pick an item, or you’re a last-minute shopper (been there, done that), ModCloth also makes it easy to get Mom a gift certificate. You can opt for an e-mail or print out a certificate to give her in person.
I was feeling really bored yesterday and started playing around with some new makeup to create a goth look. And then since the makeup didn’t fit with my sweatpants and t-shirt, I started digging through my closet for the most steampunk or goth clothing I owned. My husband had the bright idea to take some pictures and this is what we ended up with. (And yes, it’s snowing in the pics! Our first real snow of the season!)
I didn’t dress up for Halloween this year, but this is what I had in mind. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t have gotten away with it at work though…especially if I showed up carrying a sword and had a pair of sais stuck in my boots. ;)
And let’s be real—no real steampunk vampire hunter would chase monsters in high-heeled boots. My feet hurt after just running around the yard for half an hour. And I’m missing a good crossbow or some outlandish steam-looking weapon firearm, which I have yet to procure.
But it’s pretty fun to dress up and play around at home. Even if the neighbors drive by and stare. Oh well, might as well give them something good to stare at!

I think this is my favorite time of the year. The autumn colors are gorgeous and I get to wear all of my favorite things: boots, cozy scarves, and lots of layers. It’s been a bit rainy here but I did get outside to take these quick OOTD pics. I’m loving my new boot socks and wear them everyday!
