Happy Halloween! This week Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl) is a Halloween-themed freebie, so I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite horror stories that pay homage to classics! I couldn’t quite come up with ten, but here are some books, TV shows and movies to occupy your Halloween 2018.

Hello October, my favorite month
(Photo credit: Autumn Mott via Unsplash) Hello October, my favorite month. Time for boot socks and scarves and cozy blankets, for piping hot mugs of cider and tea, for stacks of books and fireplaces to read them by.
This is a month of chilly nights and foggy mornings that wrap the world in mystery, but also of sunny afternoons for exploring apple orchards and window shopping with best friends while sipping pumpkin coffee. This is the month between the hot, busy days of summer and the cold, dark days of winter, when the world slows down for a little while and everything seems perfect for a few short weeks.
I’m so excited for the start of October. I know some people see spring as the season of rebirth and autumn as one of death, but I’ve always though October offered rebirth in its own way. It’s a time in-between the rushed seasons of summer events and winter holidays. There’s a chance to slow down, take a deep breath, and reset your focus. The air changes, the light changes, everything feels and smells different. It’s always felt very much to me like a season of renewal of a different sort, a season to let go of things, to change.
I’m excited to go hiking, to explore a corn maze and carve a pumpkin, and to warm up the kitchen with fall baking. There’s a lovely TBR pile waiting for me and some cuddly cats to share it with! I have Halloween decorations to put up and a stack of horror movies to watch.
Hello October, I’m so glad you’ve arrived once again!

Steampunk vampire hunter OOTD
I was feeling really bored yesterday and started playing around with some new makeup to create a goth look. And then since the makeup didn’t fit with my sweatpants and t-shirt, I started digging through my closet for the most steampunk or goth clothing I owned. Annnnnnd then I needed to take some pics, of course! (And yes, it’s snowing in the pics! Our first real snow of the season!)
I didn’t dress up for Halloween this year, but this is what I had in mind. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t have gotten away with it at work though…especially if I showed up carrying a sword and had a pair of sais stuck in my boots. ;)
And let’s be real—no real steampunk vampire hunter would chase monsters in high-heeled boots. My feet hurt after just running around the yard for half an hour. And I’m missing a good crossbow or some outlandish steam-looking weapon firearm, which I have yet to procure.
But it’s pretty fun to dress up and play around at home. Even if the neighbors drive by and stare. Oh well, might as well give them something good to stare at!

Happy Halloween from Skittles, Guenhwyvar and Jiao!
(L-R: Skittles, Guenhwyvar, and Jiao)
Happy Halloween from the kitty crew! Yes, you read that right…we’ve expanded our little brood to include two new cats! We actually adopted them in September but I’ve been so busy that I haven’t gotten around to writing a blog post introducing them, though I have put up some snaps on my Instagram page. Skittles is six and Guenhwyvar is one, so they’re kind of bookending Jiao, who is about four.
I plan to write a longer post later in the week with more pics and the story of how they came home with us, but for now, enjoy these pics of them in their little pirate hats, and have a happy Halloween!!!
